Ezetimibe is chemically a beta lactam having azetidin-2-one ring system. It inhibits the absorption of cholesterol from the brush border of the intestine by inhibiting NPC1L1 receptors. It is given at a dose of 10 mg once daily and it can be given as monotherapy as well as combined with statins.
