Black Sabbath because the record company dictated that the band's name had to appear on what was in effect the guitarist's first solo album. • Things ended as we all know, with Hughes kicked off the tour and Black Sabbath returning in a new incarnation; but the spark between the two would never go out and in 1996 some recordings ended up on a demo, which was then not published, which in the underground was immediately renamed Eighth Star . • At the end of 2004 Tony Iommi decided to return to work during a break in his commitments with Black Sabbath: he called Bob Marlette and Kenny Aaronoff and started composing music. • Initially, Jorn Lande was with him, but the official publication of the 1996 demo with the title The 1996 DEP Sessions (you can see it here • Iommi (Tony Iommi Glenn Hughes) - T... ) rekindled the flame and, knowing that Glenn Hughes would be happy to collaborate again with him, here the picture is completed. • Fused is probably the heaviest album Iommi has ever released. • But in this band there is another absolute champion and Glenn Hughes is not and will never be a supporting player, but he will always find a way to shine: this is how in an album that seems made to crush and compress anything , the singer pulls perfect melodic lines out of the hat without losing anything of his repertoire: soul, funky and hard rock remain in Hughes' DNA and it's incredible how all this fits into Iommi's music. • The album, right from the initial Dopamine , shows all its potential: enormous riff, of pure reinforced concrete, and perfect melodic line, in pure Hughes style. • Wasted Again is a hunting ground for a devastating Hughes: the singer's screams and Iommi's evil and unstoppable riffing are something you can't describe in words, you can only enjoy listening. • Worth highlighting is the spectacular solo in Saviour of the Real or the suffocating Resolution Song . • But there is no escape from the law of the riff and here Grace is no exception, once again built around a turn of incredible heaviness, yet totally at the service of a majestic Hughes, author of a perfect and luminous refrain, which opens at the first real acceleration of the disk. • Deep Inside Your Shell seems to be the first ballad, but in a record where energy reigns supreme, the accompaniment of organ and arpeggios do not sweeten a song that is nevertheless very elegant. • What You're Living For is the first song entirely conducted at high speed and confirms how the second part of Fused wants to play other cards besides oppression. • A refreshing breath of high-class air leads us to the finale: Face Your Fear plays the card of exotic harmonies and above all enjoys one of the most beautiful refrains of the album which literally gives you shivers at the end. • The Spell is the typical expression of Iommi's doom, between catacomb riffs, sinister, empty and full arpeggios, with the organ underlining the refrain. • Yet another great piece from an album that overflows with quality and which gives us a true masterpiece at the last song; in the nine minutes of I Go Insane there is everything: the acoustic start, the epic nature of the singing and the poignant refrain, in which the distortion intervenes only to underline the emphasis point towards the ballad, beautiful and capable of tearing the heart... but it's only the beginning and after three and a half minutes the song begins to transform and the distortion returns forcefully, for a pathos-filled album closing. • Fused is a great album, the roar of two Rock Giants, wonderfully accompanied by two first-rate musicians. • The absence of pressure and expectations and the pure desire to do an excellent job offer both of them the opportunity to put a decisive piece in their relationship, bringing home an impeccable, unassailable, stainless record, full of feeling, magic, timeless so like now, almost twenty years later. • 00:00 Dopamine • 04:09 Wasted again • 08:05 Saviour of the real • 12:14 Resolution song • 17:08 Grace • 22:22 Deep inside a shell • 26:05 What you're living for • 30:42 Face your fear • 35:26 The spell • 40:24 I go insane
