White's second move might look a little weird, but it does have a reason behind it. If Black captures that pawn, White can move their e2-pawn, threatening to capture the black pawn with a gain of tempo! • Black can either accept White's gambit or decline it. If Black takes the pawn, we say that the players entered the Queen's Gambit Accepted. If Black does not capture the pawn and plays 2...e6, the opening turns into the Queen's Gambit Declined.
