VMware Tanzu Community Edition (TCE) is a freely available open source Kubernetes solution that allows deploying VMware Tanzu Kubernetes clusters to a local workstation or even to an enterprise platform such as VMware vSphere, Amazon AWS, or Microsoft Azure. There are many benefits to the solution. It has a strong community following, even though it is only been available for a short while. It allows developers, DevOps engineers, and others to have access to the same VMware Tanzu solution that is found in the enterprise Tanzu offerings from VMware in the Tanzu Basic, Standard, and Advanced offerings. • • Installing VMware Tanzu Community Edition (TCE) is as simple as running an install script which installs the Tanzu CLI utility. Using the Tanzu CLI, you can then provision clusters from the command line or with a UI switch as we demonstrate in the video, you can have a fully GUI-driven installation process to spin up new Tanzu Kubernetes clusters. • • New with the VMware Tanzu Community Edition 0.10 release, VMware has added the option for the unmanaged cluster which allows provisioning an unmanaged cluster to play around with Kubernetes.
