Sara, a recent college graduate, shares her experience with peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) donation. From day one of her filgrastim injections through donation, Sara shares first-hand how she's feeling and what donation means to her. • *For 5 days leading up to donation, PBSC donors are given injections of a drug called filgrastim to increase the number of blood-forming cells in their bloodstream. The blood-forming cells are then collected through a process called apheresis. • -------------------------------------- • About NMDP: • NMDP, formerly known as Be The Match, helps patients with leukemia, lymphoma and other diseases who need a marrow, blood stem cell or umbilical cord blood transplant.
