This video covers how to improve ankle dorsiflexion using passive mobility. Ankle dorsiflexion is vital to proper daily functions such as walking and squatting. It can be limited due to tightened posterior leg muscles (gastroc/soleus), joint restriction at the ankle and calcaneus (heel), as well as bony adaptations such as spurring. Half kneeling DF w/ dowel: the dowel gives a cue to rotate outside and create lateral glide. It also helps as a measuring stick. Be sure to keep the heel down. • 2. Wall Dorsiflexion: similar to the first but gives an end point to shoot for. Try to touch the wall with your knee and move the foot back as you get better. • 3. Half kneeling DF with Fulcrum: by using your own hand, you can gap the subtalar joint to get more mobility. It also helps create pronation for those that have rigid feet and high arches. • **Start with passive mobility, then active mobility, and lastly with functional movement (squatting, lunging, walking, etc).
