Build the PERFECT BMX Quarter Pipe Tips and Tricks

This will help you save time, money, and headaches! I’m not a pro, but I’ve built enough ramps (10+) to have an arsenal of tips and tricks to share. This bmx specific quarter is about 3.5ft high, 8ft wide, and features no coping! I absolutely love building things - if there is something else you want me to build/cover just let me know! USE MINE!!!!! • STUFF NOT MENTIONED IN VIDEO • In order to use one sheet of plywood for both sides you will need to measure the 2ft deck FIRST. Then trace the radius from there (it will make sense when you are doing it). We also braced the middle 2x4 for extra support by attaching it to the base. If you choose to leave your surface with pressure treated plywood I highly recommend staining it! The stain will be absorbed by the wood, make it look pretty, and protect it. • All prices are either taken from my local Home Depot, or are estimates. There are plenty of ways to save money by recycling used wood, utilizing different materials and tools, or even using cheaper screws. This is just based on experience what I find to work the best and make the easiest most solid ramp. • MATERIALS • 13 2x4x8 Whitewood Stud - $3 ea • 5 Pressure Treated 2”x4”x8’ - $4 ea • 2 3/4” (or close) Pressure Treated 4’x8’ Plywood - $32 ea • 4 1/2” (or close) 4’x8’ Plywood - $20 ea • 5lb Deck Mate 2-1/2” Star Deck Screw $30 • 5lb Deck Mate 1-5/8” Star Deck Screw $30 • TOTAL MATERIAL COST ~ $260 • SUGGESTED TOOLS • T-Square 48” ~ $11 • Jig Saw (or sawzall) ~ $100 • Circular Saw ~ $100 • Chalk line ~ $10 • Drill ~ $50 • Safety Glasses - $10 • Assorted drill bits - $15 • TOTAL TOOL COST ~ $270 • EXTRAS • 3 4’x8’ Ramp Armor Sheets ~ $130 ea • Truck Rental ~ $25 • RAMP ARMOR COST ~ $390 • TOTAL PROJECT COST = $260-$945 (depending on surface/tools you don’t have) • RAMP SPECS • 42” High • 8ft radius • 8ft wide • 2x4s are ~ 94.5” (96” subtract by 2x side thickness) • 2ft top deck • 1/2” sheets are 8ft long - cut excess • Ramp Armor are FULL SHEETS • Weight = VERY HEAVY. Build it where you want to keep it! • 8 -10” between studs • PRESSURE TREATED WHERE IT TOUCHES THE GROUND • Total time required: 4-10hrs • WARNINGS • As always SAFETY FIRST. If you’ve never used a power tool before, have someone there to help you. Ramp Armor is EXTREMELY sharp, DO NOT slide your hands on the edges. File the sharp edges once installed to avoid this. Wear safety goggles, you won’t believe the amount of stuff that will get flung at your eyes. It is possible to build by yourself, but having a friend will make it much easier and faster!
