The crazy survival story of Alexander Selkirk, the original castaway, and the real Robinson Crusoe. • Alexander Selkirk was born in Lower Largo, in the East Neuk of Fife, but ran off to sea and became a privateer. He was marooned on an island for four years and four months, at his own request, and finally rescued in 1709. • His story is one of grit, survival and sheer bloody mindedness, and a real-life inspiration for Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe, arguably the first novel in the English language. • Follow my adventures as I travel through the landscapes and history of Scotland.
