Australian country music pioneer Buddy Williams recorded The Overlander Trail for the Regal Zonophone Label on the 19th of September 1946. The song was written by Roy Darling with arrangement by Buddy Williams, the record proved to be a popular song for Buddy even making it onto the city pop charts at the time. The flip-side was Over Hilltop And Hollow (G 25052). In the 1948 short film called He Chased A Chicken , Buddy Williams sang The Overlander Trail live • BUDDY WILLIAMS - The Overlander Trail... . The film was shot around Glenfield in south western Sydney, the railway station can be seen in the clip. The location now is suburban Sydney, a far cry from the rural setting in 1948. • Buddy Williams re recorded The Overlander Trail in January 1965 for his album Buddy Williams Remembers (RCA L 101594). • Video This was the first album recorded by Buddy Williams for the RCA Label after changing from EMI. This RCA Album would later be re released on the Camden Label in 1974 and titled as Where The White Faced Cattle Roam (VCL1-0033 STEREO). • Buddy Williams would re record The Overlander Trail again in 1983 on his album Big Country Muster (VAL 1 0430). The 1983 recording was also re released in 1985 as a dubbed duet with Smoky Dawson on the Nicholls 'N' Dimes Label A Tribute To Buddy Williams (AX. 701410). Buddy Williams would also perform the song live on the prime time Australian television show The Bert Newton Show in the early 1980's with just acoustic guitar for accompaniment. Television personality Bert Newton was a friend and great fan of Buddy Williams.
