Pere Marquette 1225 may be down for maintenance, but the North Pole Express is still scheduled to run! Following the 10 AM run, in its place are Western Maryland 7471, an EMD SD40, and Precision Locomotive Leasing 57, a former Penn Central GP40, later a MARC GP40WH-2. Both of these locomotives are a long way from home, but they make for a neat combo. We start in Owosso, move to Carland, and finally the village of Ashley by 11:15. The train arrives, drops off its passengers, then backs up behind the main road crossing to allow for pictures. Afterwards the train stops for 2 hours, allowing passengers to explore the smalltown of around 500 people. There's Santa Claus, a carousel, ferris wheel, some popup shed shops along with the mainstay stores, and a handful of other things in the town. After Santa gives out the first gift of Christmas, the train pulls onto the road crossing to pickup its passengers and head back to Owosso. The day was cold and cloudy as per usual this time of year in Michigan. Unfortunately no snow, but the day's events in Ashley and briefly following the train made it all worthwhile in the end! • Links: • Twitter: / amtrakguy365 • Instagram: / amtrakguy365 • Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/people/1424538... • My Site: http://amtrakguy365.weebly.com/
