So, what are these changes and how will they improve future Tesla cars? Follow along as we discuss it in today’s video. • What is happening behind the scenes? • As of the latest update from Teslarati, Tesla has been making strategic moves in South Korea. The company recently posted new job openings, including a position for a Senior Battery Process Engineer. Here is the job description they provided on their website: • Elon Musk Announced Update All-New 4680 Battery. 1.750 Miles of Range!!! • “This position is mainly responsible for the rework and remanufacturing process of modules and battery packs in Remanufacturing workshop. We need to have a deep understanding of the battery pack manufacturing process and cooperate fully with relevant teams to help identify the fault modes of new battery packs and modules, implement corrective/preventive measures, and develop new repair process plans. We welcome talents from different fields to join us and become pioneers and challengers in Tesla’s global battery remanufacturing” • So what’s the secret behind this job post from Tesla? Well, it coincides with LG Energy Solution (LGES) preparing to start production of 4680 cells at its Ochang Factory in South Korea. This is not a coincidence. If you watched our previous video about 4680 battery chemistry changes, you would know that starting in August this year, LG Energy Solution will assist Tesla in ramping up production of 4680 batteries. • Elon Musk Announced Update All-New 4680 Battery. 1.750 Miles of Range!!! • According to Chief Executive Kim Dong-myung, mass production of these batteries is set to begin at LG's Ochang plant in Korea by August or September. When asked about the possibility of producing cylindrical batteries with the 4680 cell form factor at LG's Nanjing facilities in China, Kim mentioned that they are exploring various options. Additionally, LG plans to commence production of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, predominantly sourced from Chinese manufacturers, in the latter half of 2025. • With the new hiring post in Korea, this move indicates that Tesla is taking the final necessary preparation steps before LG Energy Solution joins in to help ramp up 4680 battery production. Many believe this is to ensure the quality and inspection of 4680 cells from LG Energy Solution. With this deal secured, LGES will become the first global battery maker to mass-produce 4680 battery cells.
