Mike Gable of Pontoon Hydrofoil Applications Inc., longtime boat builder/modifier desired to purchase a pontoon boat but did NOT want to do the standard Pontoon Slow Boat Thing . He designed a 1 piece hydrofoil assist wing VARA™ Foil, an adaptably loaded steering control plate VARA™ Plate and a strong hydrofoil structure VARA™ Strut that would give a pontoon or tritoon boat that much needed different ride, speed, fuel economy with less engine loads. • A 2012 20' Avalon CF pontoon boat that reportedly did 21 mph with a 75hp 2012 Etech is now hydrofoiling at 23.5 knots ( 27 mph ) with the new kit and NO other modifications. The VARA™ Foil is designed to lift boat hulls enough to decrease drag but keep a stable ride by letting the hulls kiss the water underway. The prototype was actually too fast for the prop so we added a faster prop with more pitch changing from a standard 3 blade Hydrus 13P to an aluminum 4 blade 15P. This same boat has now been 28.6 knots ( 32.89 mph ) maximum speed. From 21 mph reported to 32.9 mph actual is a substantial change worth noting. • Other products available are sold as 1 SIZE FITS ALL for ALL size boats! Competitors epoxy their system to your toons permanently. Try getting epoxy off your hull if you want to change engines for some reason!
