Come to the big state of Alaska and take a look at the appropriately sprawling base at Elmendorf on the edge of Anchorage. It's a base where newcomers are advised to be wary of, and not mess with, the sometimes-cantankerous moose population. In this grand terrain, U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy aircraft (F-15 Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon, F/A-18 Hornet, F-22 Raptor, C-17 Globemaster III, C-130 Hercules, KC-10 Extender and E-3 Sentry Airborne Warning And Control System) depart from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, 3 May 2021. They are part of Exercise Northern Edge 2021 (NE21). About 15,000 U.S. service members are participating in a joint training exercise hosted by U.S. Pacific Air Forces 3-14 May 2021, using the Joint Pacific Alaska Range Complex, the Gulf of Alaska, and temporary maritime activities area. NE21 is one in a series of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command exercises designed to sharpen the joint forces’ skills; to practice tactics, techniques, and procedures; to improve command, control and communication relationships; and to develop cooperative plans and programs.
