Handmade Wooden Bamboo Flute Demonstration Part 1

This is a demo of some of the flutes I make. Anyone familiar with wooden Irish flutes will know how these are played. They are easy for beginners to learn, and are easily adapted to by concert flutists wanting to get into folk flute styles (Celtic, Middle Eastern, East Indian, etc.) For more info. please visit http://windwoodflutes.com • • I don't show off my playing much on this video, it is mainly to show the range, tone, and intonation of my flutes. Anyone familiar with cheap, badly out of tune imported bamboo flutes may think bamboo instruments should not be taken seriously. Even most handmade bamboo flutes crafted in the US play out of tune, have weak tone, and limited range. • Hopefully, this video will inform you that, with craftsmanship, bamboo flutes can rival silver concert and wooden Irish flutes for tone and playability (I collect flutes and have all kinds). • • Most simple system Irish flutes are tuned to D but I make them in all keys with about a 2 1/2 octave range, tuned to a strobe tuner. Most are under $100. Please contact me at billymiller at swva dot net if with inquires. Thanks • • P.S. I hope to have more videos up soon with lessons on modal theory as it pertains to simple system flutes, and a few simple Irish flute lessons, as well as a flute making demonstration so check back even if you don't necessarily want a flute!
