Ponnurukku - or melting of gold is a ceremony that takes place a few days before the wedding, and is conducted by the groom's side only. The bride's family and relatives will be present, but the bride is not allowed to attend. • The goldsmith (Pather) comes to melt a gold coin, which will then be used to create the bridal pendant (thali) for the wedding. Once the melted gold has cooled, the groom will present it to everyone present and ask for their blessing. The goldsmith will then take the gold back to his shop and shape it into the bridal pendant. • After the blessing, the bride and groom's families will plant trees (Kalyana Murunggai) to bless the marriage. The tree has heart shaped leaves, and thorns, which symbolise that both the bride and groom are taken and cannot be snatched by anyone else. The trees must be planted at the same time by both families. • Lunch concludes the ceremony and both the bride and groom must be vegetarian, not allowed to leave home, and not drink alcohol, until the day of the wedding. By doing this, the bride and groom embody Sivan and Parvati (gods of the Hindu religion) and their love for one another. • Watch the full wedding video here: • • Full Ceylonese Wedding Video | Malays... • Watch the highlights / montage video here: • • Ceylonese Wedding Highlights Montage ... • Wedding Website • https://daveandomana.wedding
