Known worldwide for her paintings and art, she is also considered as the originator of modern art in India. Her painting, In the Ladies’ Enclosure (1938), fetched INR 378 million (USD 5.14 million) at auction house Saffronart’s sale in Mumbai on July 13, 2021.
