This course provides an overview of the study of psychology, focusing on historical and current issues and problems, the methods that are used for investigating them, the results that have been • reported and the theories that explain them. • • Course Objective • The main objective of this introductory course of psychology is to make students understand, explain and predict the behavior of human beings. Through the study of this course, students will be better able to understand both themselves and others, and will also be able to apply this understanding to real life situations and problems. • Learning Outcomes • After completing this course a student will be able to: • 1. View and discuss behavior from a scientific perspective • 2. Understand the role of psychology at work place • 3. Understand the wide panorama of different perspectives on the many different aspects of human behavior studied by psychologists • 4. Understand the advantage and limitations of the scientific method for studying people • 5. Avoid the most common misunderstandings about psychology and psychologists • 6. Relate what psychologists have found out about human behavior to their own understanding of people • 7. Understand the impact of both innate and learned individual characteristics (e.g., personality, emotional intelligence), and how these factors do and do not shape behavior • Teaching Methodology and Requirements • This course includes lectures, class discussions, exercises, and simulations. This multiplicity of methods allows students to: • 1. Test their understanding of theories and concepts presented in the readings. • 2. Use theories and concepts to analyze and solve actual problems in human beings. This theoretical knowledge is crucial: it allows you to be able to return to “first principles” in order to solve the new problems that you will face, continually, as a manager and a part of a society. • 3.
