We're currently in Mérida, Mexico living as expats! • Expat life in Mexico during covid has been interesting so far, to say the least, but this city has surprised us so much and we're absolutely loving it. • (It's worth noting that we could also be called immigrants, migrants, digital nomad, person who lives abroad, citizen of the world, not sure of the exact term that fits us best.) • Timestamps: • • 00:00 Our trip in Mexico so far • 2:00 Walkability, Lifestyle, Cost to Rent • 2:54 Recreational Spaces and Nature • 3:47 Do you need a car? • 4:23 Buses and Colectivos • 4:55 Shopping • 5:40 Eating out at restaurants • 5:57 Island time in Mexico? • 6:45 Underwear problems (Laundry) • 8:30 Safety and Cleanliness • 9:28 Mexico is less hostile? • 10:25 Why we came to Mexico • 10:51 Visas and working remotely • 11:47 Is Mexico right for you? • • There's a large community of digital nomads and expats living in Merida, and we can see why. Many of the main squares and even some entire streets offer free wifi and there are dozens of great coffee shops and lots of affordable housing options. Not to mention the beach, thousands of cenotes, and dozens of ancient Mayan cities and historical sites are all in your backyard! • This video is for anyone on the fence about moving to Mexico or just curious about learning more. We wanted to have a conversation about some of the things we miss about living in the USA and some of the things that we're not missing at all. Hopefully, you can use it to apply to yourself and see if you think life in Mexico would work for you. We've included some overall tips for ex-pats and tips on visas as well. :) • A little back story... at the end of last December, we decided to embrace the uncertainty that we had all become accustomed to that year and indefinitely relocate to Mexico! • We flew into Cancun, where we've visited in the past, and after just a few days moved to Valladolid in the middle of Yucatan state. We spent 5 weeks there and have been in Merida ever since. We've taken some amazing weekend trips from Merida and Valladolid as well. Tulum, Izamal, Celestun, Chichen Itza, and Progreso to just name a few.
