A loud alarm will sound from millions of mobile phones across the UK, with a message also appearing on screens at 3pm on April 23 in a test of a new public alert system. • The system is intended to be used in life-threatening situations including flooding and wildfires. • The government has released the text that will pop up on people’s home screens next Sunday. • The message will be received on 4G and 5G mobile phones, along with sound and vibration for up to 10 seconds even if devices are on silent. • It will say: “This is a test of Emergency Alerts, a new UK government service that will warn you if there’s a life-threatening emergency nearby. • “In a real emergency, follow the instructions in the alert to keep yourself and others safe. Visit gov.uk/alerts for more information. This is a test. You do not need to take any action.” • • Subscribe to ITV News on YouTube: http://bit.ly/2lOHmNj • • Get breaking news and more stories at http://www.itv.com/news • • Follow ITV News on Facebook:   / itvnews   • Follow ITV News on Twitter:   / itvnews   • Follow ITV News on Instagram:   / itvnews
