Biologics are innovative treatments that help patients manage a wide variety of conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease and cancer. • Biologics are often expensive, limiting many people from accessing the treatments they need. Biosimilars are FDA-approved alternatives to biologics - much like generic drugs - and give more patients access to the medicines they need to manage their conditions. • Roughly 2 percent of patients use biologic medicines, yet they account for over 50 percent of prescription drug spending in the United States.
