The Mandalorian Secret villain is out here...we had an episode called Spies with no Spies. So could it be the Armorer? She has possible connections to darth maul, Death Watch, and Moff Gideon--all big-time villains in the Star Wars Galaxy. • Thanks for supporting our channel! Plus, this is one of the first episode titles that didn't have obvious context. • Doug: So who do you think is the spy? • Well, there are a number of possibilities. It could be Axe Wolves, who was conveniently missing in the ambush scene. Or, there’s the surviving Mandalorians we meet in the last episode. They who took them straight to it. After all, you don;t cast skinny pete to just be an extra. BUT everyone in my comments have some compelling evidence that the spy is actually the Armorer. • Doug: What? The leader of an extremist cult may have an ulterior motive. Who could have seen that coming? • Okay, well, when you put it like that, it seems obvious, but there are some layers here that go all the way back to the clone wars and even Darth Maul. In fact, she may even be one of the Mandalorian who fought alongside him. • We recently released a video on why the Dark Saber is cursed, which provides alot of context for this, so definitely go check it out for some more info on this topic. • Essentially, Maul is able to make himself the leader of a group of Mandalorians named Death Watch after defeating Pre Vizla in combat. He takes the dark saber and the Mandalorian throne after overthrowing the pacifist regime. • The Mandos under mauls leadership all wore horns on their head as a tribute to their new leader. • Doug: Wait, doesn't the Armorer have horns on her helmet too? • Ding ding ding - as does Moff Gideon, but more on that later • • Palpatine eventually stopped Maul’s conquest…but that didn’t necessarily end his leadership. • While the dark saber has to be won in combat, there are still a very specific set of criteria that has to be met in order to transfer leadership. The most important being that the dark saber has to be present during the fight—but there’s also a level of reverence and recognition that has to be given to the dark saber. Or apparently, you can acquire it through the spider robot loophole • [clip] • Otherwise, anyone who lost a fight with the dark saber would have to Give it up. [clip] • Palpatine had no respect for the dark saber, rather he just wanted Maul dead so he could tie up loose ends, while still abiding by the rule of two. • Doug: Wait, whats “the rule of two?” • The rule of two is a Sith code that states that there can only be two Sith at one time. One to hold the power, and one to pine for it. This rue was established by a sith named Darth bane/ Yous ee, there used to be thousands of Sit, but their desire for power led to them destroying one another. Hence, now there can only be two. • This is why we had Sith Inqusitors, but they were not full-fledged stih lords. By the time the clone wars rolled around, Palpatine had already begun seducing Dooku to the dark side. And dooku was a far more useful apprentice to star a galactic civil war–so Maul was already outliving his usefulness. • Doug: but - somehow, Maul survived. • Yes, he survied his duel with Obi Wa, and got robot legs. Then his conquest of mandlore ended when paaptine defeated him. But, even after Maul was defeated by Palpatine, he still had a number of loyal supporters–and these loyalists broke him out of his imprisonment. • • And of course Maul retook Mandalore–again–but his forces were defeated by Bo-Katan and Ahsoka Tano. • We also know from the post-credit scene in Solo - and from a number of Star Wars comics - that Maul became the leader of a criminal syndicate known as the crimson dawn, and that he had created a base of operations on his home world of Dathomir [clip] - which is also where sabine eventually finds the darksaber in rebels. • We know the names of two of Maul’s most loyal supporters–Rook Kast and Gar Saxon. Now, after maul’s defeat, gar Saxon joined with the empire to become the ruling governor of Mandalore. But some of Maul’s Mandalorian followers must have stayed loyal to him. [clip] We think some of these elite warriors played some kind of role in the formation of the crimson dawn.
