Well, this song was in the making for right on a month. I had the lyrics mostly down. Only a few modifications needed to be made in the past couple weeks, but actual.... core and feeling of the song to feel right took some effort. Then I heard something on the radio, and went like That could work. • But yeah. White Feather was one heck of a dude, being both one of the first, and preeminent of the sniper corps in Vietnam. If you want more context on that guy's life, @the_fat_electrician has a great video on him. Also on Roy Benevidez. But I'm also having difficulty getting something I like for that song as well. • [Verse 1] • He walked the line with steady eyes, • In a world where shadows fall. • Through the scope, he'd see the prize, • A soldier standing tall. • With each breath, he held the key, • To save the lives of men, • He took the burden willingly, • And went on every mission again. • [Chorus:] • “I went on every mission I could, • To save the lives of the others they would have sent In place of me” • The battlefield knows no greater fear, • Than the whisper of his thought, • For the most deadly thing out there, • Is one well-aimed shot. • [Verse 2] • His name became a whispered tone, • In the jungle, far and wide. • With a feather white, alone, • His legend did reside. • In silence, he would make his mark, • Where others dared not tread, • A sniper’s skill, a heart so stark, • In the distance, he led. • Chorus: • “I went on every mission I could, • To save the lives of the others they would have sent In place of me” • The battlefield knows no greater fear, • Than the whisper of his thought, • For the most deadly thing out there, • Is one well-aimed shot. • Bridge: • In the shadows of the trees, • He found his place to fight, • With patience, skill, and silent ease, • He struck with all his might. • No glory sought, just duty done, • To him, the fight was clear, • A single shot, the battle won, • A sniper without peer. • Chorus: • “I went on every mission I could, • To save the lives of the others they would have sent In place of me” • The battlefield knows no greater fear, • Than the whisper of his thought, • For the most deadly thing out there, • Is one well-aimed shot. • Outro: • With every step, he held the ground, • A guardian, unseen, • In his heart, a duty bound, • To places he had been. • His legacy, a silent call, • To those who take the shot, • For in the end, it’s not the fall, • But the fight that counts a lot.
