The oiliest timber ever? An absolute stonker of a tonewood, on a par with Brazilian rosewood although slightly more dense and a little harder. It can be tricky to work with due to the high oil content making gluing difficult. Some examples also have interlocking grain which can result in tear out when planing. Cocobolo pairs beautifully with European spruce for a guitar with excellent note separation, amazing dynamic range and an expansive tonal envelope. Wonderful stuff. • I was first introduced to the joys of cocobolo by Julian Gaffney during our time together as apprentices to Ervin Somogyi in Oakland, Califonia. • https://thenorthamericanguitar.com/bl... • https://esomogyi.com/
