Since even extremely expensive professional panorama cameras like the Noblex just offer an optical viewfinder I wanted to make such a camera in form of a single lens reflex. How can these problematic panorama pictures be better composed if not on a matte screen? • Another idea was to use cheap medium format objectives instead of special large format wideangles. Lenses of the 6x6-format deliver an image circle of 80mm. A picture format of 24x74mm fits perfectly into that circle using the picture angle entirely. 74mm is the width of 16 perforation holes minus the standard 2mm space between the pictures. • I wanted to use the widely spread Pentacon Six lenses. This is why the camera needed an own focal plane shutter. The hardest thing was to reconstruct the Praktica shutter to cover the whole 74mm width. Furthermore the camera has a film transport with auto stop and a semi-automatic aparture mechanism. So there is not much difference in handling the Praktica Panorama compared to a normal Praktica.
