Muhammad Ali • • • TRUMP DOES A DEAL ON OWN WEDDING • • When flamboyant multi-millionaire Donald Trump, 58, celebrates, he celebrates big, and his wedding to fiancée Melania Knauss, 34, later today will be no exception. • • The 'Apprentice' kingpin's extravagant, destination wedding will be held at Mar-a-Lago, his private club in Palm Beach, Florida. • The blushing bride will be wearing a design by hot commodity John Galliano for Christian Dior. • • A white duchesse satin confection, the gown is constructed of almost 300-feet (91.4 metres) of material with a 13-foot train (4 metes), crowned by a 16-foot (4.9 metes) veil. It took 1,000 hours to make, and 550 hours to embroider more than 1,500 crystal rhinestones and pearls in a swirl pattern. At one point in the process, the made-to-measure dress required the skills of all 28 seamstresses in the Dior Couture atelier. • • The retail price tag is estimated to be in the $200,000 range, though it is likely that the cost was significantly less for Knauss, because of the valuable publicity associated with the high profile wedding. • • Indeed, ever the entrepreneur, Mr Trump, the New York Times reported, managed to get many items free or at a reduced price, from Ms Knauss's $1.5m 13-carat diamond ring to the catering. • • Trump, who made a fortune in property and casinos, came to epitomise the 1980s 'greed is good' mentality with his brash, opinionated style. A downturn in fortunes saw him face financial ruin in the 1990s but since he has restored his business empire. • • Probably the most famous corporate figure in the U.S, the New Yorker once said: You know, it really doesn't matter what (the media) write as long as you've got a young and beautiful piece of ass. • • The Slovenian model will be Donald Trump's third wife. His first two marriages ended in very public divorces: the first from wife Ivana after nearly 15 years, the second from Marla Maples after less than six years. • • Maples, the other woman in his first, 1990 divorce, split with Trump for good in 1999. • • Trump has three children with Ivana and a daughter with Maples. • • Approximately 400 of Trump's closest and dearest friends will attend the nuptials from the prince of hip-hop, P. Diddy, to the prince of England, Prince Charles. Other guests include Elton John, Oprah, Liza Minnelli, Muhammad Ali, Bruce Willis and Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas. • • Guests at this weekend's wedding will be pampered for the three-day affair, which will offer spa treatments, golf, tennis and more before and after the celebration.
