Tianmen Mountain Heavens Gateway

Tianmen Mountain, situated just outside Zhangjiajie in the Hunan Province of China provided us with an incredible experience. The cable car to the top was a spectacular experience that offered a unique view of the sheer cliff face and frozen waterfalls that define Tianmen. Due to the recent snow, the 99 bend winding road was closed which meant we also had the chance to descend via Cable Car which only served to underscore what an amazing place it is. • You'll notice that Heaven's Gate isn't featured much in this video. Unfortunately, due to the weather and it being off season the stairway and related access was closed. • Tianmen Mountain is also home to a beautiful temple, numerous observation platforms, and various other facilities not covered in my voice over. To be honest, my main focus was on photos, so shooting a lot of video didn't happen. • The footage at the very beginning is of a small dam we discovered at the foot of the mountain and along the base of the cable way. We walked up chasing rice fields/terraces the afternoon before as it was too late by the time we arrived to go up. Though we didn't find any interesting terraces, we did stumble onto the lake (and a number of confused locals - apparently not many wander that way) which offered a wonderful view of the peaks in the mist. • Footage is from a mixture of my Sony A7RII and iPhone 7.
