The roots of the Lockheed AH-56 Cheyenne go back the 1950s and experiments with a rigid rotor hub helicopter but the results were so good that the US Army commissioned a project to study its potential uses which eventually lead to the AH-56. • To many, this was the best attack helicopter of the 20th century but to the USAF and its competitors, it was a threat that was just too much to bear so in the end and under combined pressure the project was cancelled. This is the story of the best helicopter that never was. • Patreon / curiousdroid • Paypal.me : https://www.paypal.me/curiousdroid • Sponsored by • Enlight.bg • Etienne Dechamps • inunotaisho • Kyle Barnard • Kedar Deshpande • Big Bubbaloola • Henning Bitsch • ChasingSol • Alix Lesiv • Carl Soderstrom • Sami Tirkkonen • Cameron Elliot • Dylan Leblanc • Cash Garman • Marco Mangen • Laurent Steck • Steve J - LakeCountySpacePort • Brian Kelly • Juerg Hurni • Damien Pasche • Jonathan Travers • Henri Saussure • Alok G Singh • john edwards • Vincent • Peter Barber • Janne Kurikka • Prashanth Ruthala • Sk1er • stefan hufenbach • Lorne Diebel • Kai Spuhler • Walt Dennig • Andrew SMITH • Allan Versaevel • SHAMIR • Jonathan Merage • Daniele Noacco • Alan Johns • Collin Copfer • László Antal • Johan Rombaut • Pyloric • • And a big thank you to all our other Patreon supporters. • Presented by Paul Shillito • Written and Researched by Paul Shillito. • Images and footage : Lockheed, US Army, USAF, US Army Aviation Museum, Boeing, Martin Walsh Red Dune Films vsTerminus, Chuck Aaron Aerobatics, MrChillStorm, Graham Warwick - @TheWoracle • Music from the Youtube Library • Dance of the Mammoths by the Whole Other
