The Atlanta Falcons have a new stadium, the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, designed by 360 Architecture. It has an aperture-style retractable roof. The stadium was inspired by the Roman Pantheon and was meant to mimic the way a camera lens opens and closes. The roof can open and close in just under 8 minutes. The rotation you're seeing is actually an optical illusion. It's just 8 petals opening in a straight line. They lock together to keep water out. Each petal is covered in translucent fabric so that light can still pass through, even if the roof is closed. The stadium cost about $1.5 billion. • -------------------------------------------------- • Follow BI Video on Twitter: http://bit.ly/1oS68Zs • Follow BI on Facebook: http://bit.ly/1W9Lk0n • Read more: http://www.businessinsider.com/ • -------------------------------------------------- • Business Insider is the fastest growing business news site in the US.
