The CDL Skills Test is comprised of three parts: • • Part One: Pre-Trip Inspection • • Part Two: Backing Exercises • • Part Three: Road Test • • In this video, Jason, the director of new truck driver orientation development @ Roehl Transport, speaks about what it takes to pass the CDL skills test and get your commercial driver's license. • The Pre-Trip inspection is the first part of the CDL Skills Test you will encounter. For your Pre-Trip Inspection, you may be selected to do what they call a “Partial”. A “Partial” is where the examiner picks just a particular section of the vehicle, tractor, or trailer or maybe a small combination of each and asks you to identify and talk about the components found on that particular section of the vehicle, tractor, or trailer. If you are not selected to conduct a “Partial”, you will be required to conduct a “Full” Pre-Trip Inspection. During a “Full” Pre-Trip Inspection, you will be required to identify and discuss all of the components found outside of the vehicle, tractor, or trailer. After you do the outside portion of the Pre-Trip, your examiner will have you perform what is a called an “In-Cab”. During an “In-Cab”, you will be required to identify all the components inside the truck and perform what they call the “LABS” test, which stands for “Leaks”, “Alarms” and “Buttons”. Once you successfully passed the “In-Cab”, then your Pre-Trip portion of the CDL Skills Test is complete. • The second part of your CDL Skills Test is comprised of backing exercises. There are different types of “Backs” you must learn and master in order to pass the CDL Skills Test. You have your “Straight Line Back” and the “Offset Back”. After you complete and successfully passed the “Backing” portion of the CDL Test, then you move on to the “Road Portion” or the driving portion of the CDL Test Skills test. • The final portion of the CDL Skills test is the “Road Portion” or driving portion of the CDL Skills Test and is going to take you anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes to complete. During the “Road Portion” your examiner will have you travel a predetermined route. You will not know that route prior to driving it during the “Road Portion” of the CDL Skills Test. This route is going to present you with numerous traffic situations. To get a better understanding of the type of situations you might be presented with and additional insight into the “Road Portion” of the CDL Skills Test, watch the video above. • You can get paid on-the-job training ( https://www.roehl.jobs/driving-jobs/c... ) with Roehl and develop the skills needed to become a safe, professional truck driver. • Visit https://www.roehl.jobs/ today to learn more and start your new, stable career.
