This train has no driver. The mining company, Rio Tinto, completed a fully autonomous rail journey. The train traveled 62 miles through Western Australia. Multiple teams worked together to monitor the train as it traveled. Their goal? To build the first fully autonomous rail network for freight trains. The project involves automating trains that transport iron ore to port facilities. Rio Tinto operates 200 locomotives on more than 1,056 miles of track.
