The biggest shift is the removal of annual contracts. Now, all the plans are monthly, which can be seen as a positive move. However, if you were on an annual plan for a lower year-round cost, that's no longer an option. Most monthly plan prices have stayed the same, with the main exception being the old Expedition plan (now called Premium), which dropped to $50, offering a lot of unlimited features. They've also renamed the plans: Safety is now Essential, Recreation is Standard, and Expedition is Premium. • One notable improvement is the elimination of the monthly plan fee for the new plans. Previously, if you chose the Freedom plan, there was an annual fee of $34.95, but now it's replaced by a one-time activation fee. That fee, however, has increased by $10 across the board. The SOS check-in messages remain unchanged and are still unlimited. Now, there are new reactions, similar to the ones you get on an iPhone, available for free. • The message allowance has been adjusted too. The basic plan, which used to include just 10 text messages or basic weather updates, now provides 50. The old Recreation plan has increased from 40 to 150 messages, and the new Premium plan (formerly Expedition) is now unlimited. Garmin likely made these changes to stay competitive with the iPhone’s free satellite messaging. There are also new features like photos and voice messages, which will cost extra depending on your plan. Overages for these new features are priced at $1 each, while regular message overages remain at $0.50 for the two lower-tier plans. Track points are still $0.10 each on the lowest plan. • For those on professional plans, there aren't many changes except for the introduction of a Pro Enabled option. This plan provides basic SOS coverage for $12.99 a month, great for users who want the device mainly for emergency purposes without frequent messaging. If you’ve received updates from Garmin or have experiences to share, let me know in the comments. I’ve ordered the new inReach Messenger Plus, so stay tuned for a first look and a more in-depth review soon. • ♥️ SAY THANKS: https://hikingguy.com/support-hiking-... • 🌎 Bucket List Hikes You Should Try: • https://bit.ly/bucket-list-hikes • 👀Subscribe For New Hike Guide Videos •    / @hikingguy   • 👍Monthly Email For New Hike Updates: • https://hikingguy.com/newsletter/ • 🎆Instagram For Insider Hike Info: •   / hikingguy_com   • #garmin #inreach • #hiking #hike #hikingvlog #hikinggear #hikingtrails #hikingandcamping #hikingandcampingforbeginners #hikingandcampingvlog #hikingandbackpacking #52HikeChallenge #backpacking #healthyliving #trails #outdoors #nature
