What happens after I file a claim with the EEOC? | Zuckerman Law | Eric Bachman | https://www.zuckermanlaw.com/ | https://www.glassceilingdiscriminatio... | (202) 769-1681 | (202) 262-8959 • • They will take a look at the information and the evidence that you provided, that supports your claim of discrimination and then they will turn to the employer and ask them to respond to the allegations in your complaint and provide their own evidence about what they believe actually happened there. Depending on whether or not the EEOC believes there's sufficient information at that point to think that discrimination may have occurred, they may do a follow-up investigation, for example, interview witnesses obtain more information from the employer and do a fuller investigation. Ultimately, the EEOC will decide whether or not there's reasonable cause to believe that you are discriminated against at work, if they do believe that, they will try to potentially settle the case between you and the employer or ultimately file in court. If they don't believe that discrimination occurred they're going to send you what's called a Right to Sue Notice and that allows you to file your own claim in federal court.
