This may be my favorite piece from what is easily one of the best study books in the entire trumpet literature. From Théo Charlier’s “Twenty-six Transcendental Studies,” this “Étude Moderne” (No. 12 in the book) hints at Debussy’s impressionism with lots of whole tone scales and sometimes a bit of ambiguous tonality. • Sheet music, playable by any brass or woodwind instrument, is available here: https://www.matonizz.com/product/char... • This is part of on ongoing project of mine to create piano settings of my favorite Charlier etudes. As I explained in the description of the first of these, “No. 2: Du Style,” for many years, I’ve imagined how perfectly this piece (and some of the others from his book) would sound with piano accompaniment.
