The Eastern Cape Business Chamber has raised concern about the high level of extortion against businesses in Mthatha. Some businesses are closing down due to syndicates allegedly demanding Protection Fees from mainly foreign-owned businesses. This practice has already resulted in two Petrol stations closing down in Mthatha.
