1. What are my TRICARE options? • For retired veterans who have served 20 years or more in the military, you can get health insurance through TRICARE Select (formerly called TRICARE Standard/Extra) or elect TRICARE Prime. For retired reservists who have served for 20 creditable years, you can enroll in the TRICARE Retired Reserves program. Qualified National Guard and Reservists can use the TRICARE Reserve Select plan. There are other TRICARE plans but these are the major plans that work with a TRICARE supplement. • 2. Do I need the TRICARE Supplement if I am on TRICARE Prime? • While TRICARE Prime has low out of pocket expenses when you stay in network, policy holders still find the supplement helpful because it allows you to: • i. Go out of network without incurring the high out of pocket expenses • ii. See a specialist without having to go through your Primary Care Manager • iii. See a provider outside of your network • 3. What’s the difference between a TRICARE Supplement group plan with Selman Company and an individual TRICARE Supplement plan? • Corporate and Retail: A group or corporate plan doesn’t have age banding for premium rates, or a pre-existing conditions waiting period. Corporate plans can sometimes cover part of the TRICARE Select deductible. The individual supplement plans, which are also called “retail” plans, allow active duty spouses and dependents to enroll. Individual plans are offered directly through Selman Company, and they are not available in all states. • 2. Does Selman Company manage TRICARE? • No. Selman Company does not manage TRICARE. TRICARE is managed by the US government’s Defense Health Agency (DHA).
