I would normally only upload these live music performances on my other channel (please subscribe): Les Stroud Music    / @lesstroudmusic   • But I liked this one alot so here you go • Into The Wind • Definitely a group I would deem my A-List band!!! • Reggie Young on bass • Elmer Ferrer on guitar • Nick Chiarore on drums • Rob Christian on flute and keys • Into The Wind • Into the Wind is a sort of spiritual reaction to all I had experienced in terms of absolute one-ness with the earth. It is about removing barriers between us and the earth. Standing out in the rain. Sitting on the ground. It reperesents no fear. It is about feeling what the earth feels as she feels it. • There’s also a small push back to mockers: “I will prove I am not insane”. • And finally when I die, a request to let my ashes blow with the wind. Dust to dust ashes to ashes. • Sometimes a song comes to you quickly and you write it in one sitting. Sometimes it develops slowly through “noodling” on my guitar on something that kind of, sort of sounds pretty cool. Into the Wind was definitely the latter. I slipped the guitar tuning into what is called DADGAD which is one of my favourite tunings if I want to pretend I am a good guitar player. • I was also using visualization at the time to try to spiritually effect my desires within music. I had this riff and I was playing it over and over again and then one day I took it out onto the back porch in the sun and stared playing it to “the crowd” in the stadium; birds, frogs, caterpillars, butterflies and the rest as I looked back into an Ontario forest. • I was feeling energy. I just wanted to really shout this song, whatever it was going to be. I wanted to play to the air, to the sky. I wanted it to feel powerful. At the time I was doing some co-writing with Bryan Potvin and this was one of the songs he just sat back and said, “It’s great, you don’t need any help on this one”. So I took it into the studio. • Later when I was doing my final version of these songs that would become the album Mother Earth (as this was before I met Mike Clink) I found myself in Nashville with engineer Noel Golden and the massively talented and hugely sought after drummer Shannon Forest (now playing and touring with Toto). I implored him to give it all he had on the drums. He told me he has been playing country (at one time all the top ten tracks on the Billboard Country 100 had his drumming on them) for over ten years and he just loved progressive rock but he had zero chance to play it. So give it all he had he certainly did. So much so that he came back into the control room of the studio sweating and with a big grin on his face said , “I haven’t sweated playing drums in ten years!”. I got him to do his big drum break three more times until he really and truly let loose. It was like he was giving the final push to birthing a baby. That drum breakdown before the final verse is perhaps my favourite musical moment on the entire album. It’s freakin’ emotionally charged. You HAVE to play it LOUD! • Into the wind • Stand out in the rain feel the water running down your back • Stand our from the crowd you will never get this moment back • Stand out in the rain • Sit down on the ground feel the earth that lies beneath your skin • Lie down on the ground kiss the earth and all the souls within • Sit down on the ground • I’ll run, i’ll fly, i will certainly kiss the sky • I will talk, to the rain, i will prove i am not insane • When i die, burn me hot, blow my ashes into the wind • Into into the wind, into into the wind • Hold me in the rain there’s water running down my back • Tear drops from the clouds • The earth cries we will feel the rain • The earth dies we will feel the pain • I’ll run, i’ll fly, i will certainly kiss the sky • I will talk, to the rain, i will prove i am not insane • When i die, burn me hot, blow my ashes into the wind • Into into the wind, into into the wind • Sunset, sunrise, i will greet the day with open eyes • Hold me, in the sun • I’ll run, i’ll fly, i will certainly kiss the sky • I will talk, to the rain, i will prove i am not insane • When i die, burn me hot, blow my ashes into the wind • Into into the wind, into into the wind • • • For more updates, follow my Facebook page! •   / thereallesstroud   • #Survivorman #LesStroud
