This patient discusses his hair transplant surgery experience with Dr. Victor Hasson and his team. https://hassonandwong.com • In his 40’s at the time of his hair restoration procedure, within 2 months of sending us his photos and information, this patient traveled from Shanghai to Vancouver for his procedure with Dr. Hasson. Based on his photos, Dr. Hasson felt he could create a significant cosmetic improvement by restoring the hairline, frontal zone and mid scalp. The goal was to restore these areas to maximize the impact to his appearance. It was determined that crown coverage would likely not be achievable at least in the first surgery and the original recommendation was aiming for something close to 4,000 grafts. The option of a second procedure to address the crown was to be possible. Recommendations by the doctors based on the photos and information sent in by the patient are fairly accurate. However, there is usually a margin for error and the more accurate determination as to what is possible becomes evident upon examination of the patient prior to their hair transplant procedure. We will likely error on the side of conservative in cases such as these as we don’t want to over promise and under deliver and disappoint the patient. We would rather under promise and over deliver. However, we do try to be as accurate as reasonably possible. It is difficult in many cases to tell in photos alone whether a larger number of grafts such as something exceeding 5,000 is possible. After examining the patient in his pre-op consultation, Dr. Hasson observed that his donor area was better than expected and his scalp laxity was very good. This enabled him to exceed the original recommendation and his goal was then to harvest 5,000 or more grafts. Wanting as many grafts as possible, the patient’s expectations were exceeded with 6364 grafts via FUT. A light crown coverage, while not expected in the first session, was able to be achieved with this number of grafts. His hair is on the finer side and the 6364 grafts consisted of 2180 single hair grafts, 3844 double hair grafts and 340 3-4 hair grafts. These photos, taken at the clinic 16 months post-op, represent the result of his first 6364 FUT hair transplant surgery. • On his second visit, he again wanted to maximize the yield and elected to have another FUT followed up with an FUE procedure. These “combo” sessions are becoming increasingly popular as patients want to maximize the number of grafts harvested in one visit if possible. He wanted to add some density to the crown and restore his temple points. The 2 day total combining the FUT and FUE was 3448 grafts of which 2545 were FUT and 903 were FUE. A .08 mm punch size was used for the FUE. The second visit added some density to the frontal zone, reconstructed temple points and increased the density for the crown. If only they would have taken another 188 to get to 10,000, that would have had a nice ring to it But, I don’t think he’s complaining. • If we’re fortunate enough to see him again and he decides to make another trip from China we will show the result of his most recent procure also.
