Their height should be between 68-78 cm which is 26-31 inches and their weight should be between 45-50 kg for females which is 100-110 pounds and 50-60 kgs for males which is 110-135 pounds. • Black Russian Terrier is a very young dog breed, they were developed in 1940s in Russia by crossbreeding Giant Schnauzers, Newfoundlands, Airedale Terriers and Rottweilers. The most important ancestor is the Giant Schnauzer. The breed was recognized by the FCI in the 1984. • The breeding process was not easy. The military needed a large powerful dog with strong work ethic, that will be highly trainable, adaptable and that will do okay in cold russian temperatures. The problem was to find the correct breeds to create Black Russian Terriers, because a lot of the russian dogs were killed in the Russian Revolution. The Black Russian Terrier breeding process was perfected 20 years after it started – in 1960s.
