For so long, the Golden State had been looked at as the pinnacle of Western civilization and a metaphor for the American Dream. It’s been described in countless tunes by dozens of artists and over several decades. But one song in particular looked to correct that entire façade (“Californication”). • The Red Hot Chili Peppers are undoubtedly a California band. They not only formed in LA but their songs are full of themes, images, and references to their home state. They’ve seen firsthand the effects the Hollywood lifestyle has had on its inhabitants and the world at large.
