New 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid Compact SUV

Toyota launched an all-new Yaris Cross in Indonesia, which is unrelated to the B-SUV with the same name currently offered in Europe, Japan, and Australia. The model adopts styling cues from the larger RAV4 and the Highlander, offering the option between petrol and hybrid powertrains. • The Yaris Cross is based on the brand’s DNGA platform that underpins several models in the ASEAN countries. In terms of dimensions, it measures 4,310mm in length, 1,770mm in width, and 1,615mm in height. It gets a long 2,620mm wheelbase. • The Toyota Yaris Cross takes heavy inspiration from the Highlander SUV, especially towards the front end. It has a similar front fascia, but looks more aggressive, thanks to the sculpted bits like the housing for the fog lamps and front skid plates. The headlights look sharp and the trapezium-shaped grille has an upright stance to it. • The upright stance is also seen in the roofline which only tapers down ever so slightly towards the end for that sportier look. You get squared-out wheel arches with heavy black cladding that continues on the side sills, giving it a nice beefy look. • The rear end seems to be inspired from the Corolla Cross that sits above in its lineup. The horizontal tailights are quite similar, but definitely look sharper in the Yaris Cross. • Inside, the crossover gets an asymmetrical and driver-focused cockpit. Right in the centre of the dashboard, you have a tall 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a seven-inch digital instrument cluster. Apart from this, it also comes equipped with a panoramic sunroof, wireless charger, ambient lighting, a powered tailgate, and a powered driver’s seat. • In terms of safety, the Yaris Cross comes equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic parking brakes, and an emergency stop signal. Moreover, it gets a rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitor, hill start assist, and vehicle stability control. • The 2024 Yaris Cross is available with two engine options. First is a naturally-aspirated 1.5-liter 2NR-VE four-cylinder that's shared with the Vios. It makes 106 PS with 138 Nm of torque and can be coupled to a CVT or 5-speed manual transmission. • The other powertrain is the hybrid version and gets a 1.5-liter 2N-VEX. The engine alone makes a humble 91 PS with 121 Nm of torque while the electric motor provides an extra 80 PS with 141 Nm.
