July 1958 saw Las Vegas show goers treated to an extraordinary theatrical event, the first U.S. presentation of Paris' world famous Lido de Paris glittering production at the new Stardust hotel's showroom C'est Maginifique . • This colorful spectacle introduced Las Vegas to new heights in musical theater, featuring a huge cast of dancers, showgirls, world renowned acts, musicians and stage creations here to fore never seen in Sin City. Having created the theater stage to expressly to accommodate the many new innovations of the day. During it's six month long run it was brought to the attention of the then current stage manager Bill DeAngelis to attempt to record this new upcoming phenomenon and put on film the next breathtaking effort entitled Ca' C'est L'Amour opening in 1959. • As the contract ran for six months it allowed filming to take place over a period of many days by using a state of the art Bolex camera. Color film was expensive which demanded adequate lighting thus becoming necessary to shoot in black and white under difficult existing lighting conditions. • Shot during both the dinner and cocktail shows in the innovative Cafe Continental theater restaurant. • The completed film was painstakingly edited then narrated onto 1/4 tape while the narrator John Juliano read and looked at the projected image on the screen resulting in many miscues and audio errors. • A crew of five spent many hours to complete this endeavor (historical, unbeknownst to us at the time) The completed film was previewed once in the very same showroom to it's own cast, crew along with the waitresses, captains and busboys. • Then, after languishing forgotten for almost sixty years, it surfaced and in 2015. The restoration of this 16mm film precipitated the writing of a first person narrative about those times titled LAS VEGAS' GOLDEN ERA - 1954 - 1974. It's owner Dick Welsh passed the original film to me to finally have those memorable sixty minutes restored to it's current digital format.
