If you don't attack the tikis that come out of the bosses you defeat, they'll eventually regain conscience and fly in front of the screen and disappear. You'll still clear the boss level. Another thing I found while fighting Thugly is that if you feed him peanuts from Diddy's popguns, he'll be so satisfied that his back plates will open up and leave him open for a free hit on the back.
