EAST LINDSEY PARISH #25: EDLINGTON WITH WISPINGTON • Edlington with Wispington – “Elda’s Farm and Thicket Farm” • Hello East Lindsey we’re back again. Today we’re going to explore two of the smaller villages in the district, but one of them is well known to travellers on their way to Horncastle and Skegness. This is Edlington with Wispington, two villages that occupy a slice of countryside just to the North or Horncastle. They were separate neighbouring parishes a long time ago, but were merged with each other to form the boundaries we have today. They are farming communities predominately, although the same can be said for a lot of these rural locales. • Edlington is a linear village which begins at the A158 and ends deep in the heart of that countryside. Its most famous landmark is seafaring figure which has stood guard over the A158 for at least the last 25 years. Originating from an old amusement arcade, many people sound their horns when they pass him. He’s so popular, that he’s even got his own Facebook group – which is linked below. Edlington otherwise features a church and a few lovely houses, but its other main attraction is its tranquillity. • The same can be said for Wispington, but in that place you are far more likely to encounter farm vehicles.
