But, instead of simply pausing our preparations, we decided to utilize the one option so many have turned to in these times - Zoom. We rehearsed with cast members from far away (Athens, Moscow, Bucharest) and near (Los Angeles, Next door), all made possible in this age of modern technology. • While we are pleased with the results under these circumstances, it is still our hope to perform the play live this coming August. But, for now, please enjoy our efforts to date. Thank you! • The Trojan Women is considered one of Euripides’ greatest plays. And the events of the play, the fall of Troy at the hand of Greece, after a 10 war, was already an ancient myth that all Greeks knew well by Euripides’ time. But as it happened, Euripides chose this theme to write about only a year after Athens captured a nearby island, killing the men and taking the women as slaves, just what happened in the ancient story. • The play was well-received when it was first performed, but after a short time, those in power took offense at this “mirror” that Euripides held up to his country. As a result, he was forced to leave Athens in exile, never to return. • 🔴 Please subscribe to our channel.
