—Rogue River, Oregon • The Rogue River Garden Club keeps this Southern Oregon city in beautiful blooms during the summer in large flower boxes that line Pine Street around First St. Those boxes were crafted by the shop classes of 2005 and 2006 at Rogue River High School. At the peak of the season in late August, they explode with color. • The Garden Club also planted the flower baskets that adorn the 14 antique light posts lining East Main and the floral display at the John F. Fleming Memorial Park flag stand next to the Depot St. Bridge. Funds for these projects come from the club's bi-annual plant sales. The activities of the club don't just beautify the city; they also fund a $1,000 scholarship for a graduate of the high school to help the student earn a degree in horticulture, forestry, agriculture, or ecology. • The club meets monthly on the third Wednesday of the month at 12:30 p.m. at the Rogue River Civic Club. The current president of the club is Jill Ruehlen. Ruehlen, Kathleen Faye, and other members of the club welcome newcomers to work with them on the club's beautification projects. • Many thanks to the Rogue River Press for information contained here on the Rogue River Garden Club. • Soundtrack: The End of Summer by Vadim Kiselev • Video ©2013 by Randy Johnson • [email protected] • http://www.johnsonartworks.com/portfo...
