Keough Hot Springs was originally a sacred area for Native Tribes in the area. As more settlers made their way westward, these springs were new to them, just as private land ownership was new to the Natives. As more and more land was purchased, a man named Phillip P. Keough purchased the site of the hot springs, envisioning an oasis for the residents of Owens Valley and passersby. Unfortunatly after three years of steady progress at Keoughs, Phillip passed away, leaving the land to his sons Ches and Karl. In the 1930s the land was sold to the City of Los Angles Department of Water and Power. • It hasnt been the same since then. • With a recent lawsuit that is currently ongoing, the DWP may simply shut the place down. • From Remington and Miracle Hot Springs in the Kern Valley to Keough Hot Springs in the Owens Valley, places like these and the experiences they allow are the ties that bind.
