Engineering Marvels - The Lockheed U-2 Spy Plane (720p HD) #Documentary • This educational video shows the U2 Lockheed spy high altitude jet known as the Dragon Lady structured advanced alloys and equipped with secret technology and an advanced single-jet engine sending this record breaking very-high altitude reconnaissance aircraft up to 70,000 feet. • The U-2 experimental and operational versions were designed for long endurance, high altitudes of more than 70,000 feet; 21,000 m, where the curvature of the earth is said to be beautiful. A computer-controlled flight manager assist during long endurance flights which typically last 8 - 12 hours in the air. With a range of 6000 miles, it easily penetrated opposition air space, until recent advances in technology made the aircraft obsolete. • The SR-71 Blackbird was also used for a similar purpose. • The U-2 is one of a handful of aircraft's to have served for over 50 years. The newest models (TR-1, U-2R, U-2S prototype ) entered service in the 1980s.
