But owners are increasingly turning to a quick solution that might initially seem barking mad: hypnosis. • Wayward pets are put into a trance by the soothing tones of a ‘dog whisperer’ – and in their mesmerised state are said to be susceptible to commands that will tame their wild behaviour. • Mary Burgess, who charges £60 an hour for her services, took to hypnotising dogs after a long career helping humans lose weight or quit smoking. • ‘The process is similar to hypnotherapy in humans,’ she said. ‘Dogs go into a relaxed state, which makes them feel safe.’
