Dissectible CapacitorLeyden Jar How it Works

Demonstration of a dissectible capacitor or dissectible Leyden jar and an explanation of how it works. I charge it up to a high voltage using a Wimshurst machine and then take it apart. When I do, the voltage on the plates rises and, through ionization, charge moves from the plates to the dielectric container. This leaves the plates mostly discharged. I can even touch the plates together, to prove they're discharged. When I reassemble the capacitor/Leyden jar, the charge is still on the dielectric and so I get a spark. • Support RimstarOrg on Patreon https://www.patreon.com/user?u=680159 • Subscribe for new videos every week http://www.youtube.com/user/rimstaror... • Go to the main channel page here / rimstarorg • See also: • How to Make Capacitors - Low Voltage Homemade/DIY Capacitors (1280x720) • • How to Make Capacitors - Low Voltage ... • How to Make Capacitors - High Voltage Homemade/DIY Capacitors (1280x720) • • How to Make High Voltage Capacitors -... • Wimshurst machine - How to make using CDs (1280x720) • • Wimshurst Machine - How to Make using... • Follow behind-the-scenes on: • Twitter https://twitter.com/#!/RimStarz • Google+ https://plus.google.com/1163951251362... • Facebook / rimstarorg • http://rimstar.org • 3D modelling and animation done in Blender 2.63. • A Darker Heart - music by audionautix.com
