Point form information/rough notes below. • If you wish to support: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/mikefish316 • Please Like Subscribe! • Instagram: / mikefish316 • Tiktok: / mikefish316 • Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MikeFish-104... • Twitter (X): / xxmike316xx • Reddit: / mikefish316 • Gaming channel: / @mikediablo316 • Giant Danio Care Guide - Devario aequipinnatus • aka Golden Giant Danio • Natural Habitat • *India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand • *Fast hill streams, clear water, about 1000ft above sea level • *Native substrate is small gravel • Characteristics • *Iridescent gold body with steel-blue coloured spots and stripes running down their sides from the *Gills to the tail • *The fins are rounded with a pale-golden colour, tail fin is forked • *Several colour variations exist, including albino • *Get to 4 inches in the aquarium, sometimes larger in the wild • *Pretty easy to care for • *Live to 5 years • *Active and swim rapidly throughout the tank • *Peaceful for the most part, can be aggressive • *Schooling fish • *Like to hang out in the middle/top of the aquarium • *The assigned genus of this fish has changed over the years, and it is common to see this species *Referred to just by the name Danio in the literature • *The Malabar Danio (Devario malabaricus) was once considered the same species, but it has since been re-identified as a separate but closely related species • Aquarium • *Minimum 55 gallons, I would recommend bigger and longer due to their activity • *At least a 48 inch long tank • *The more room the better • *They jump so keep a lid • *pH 6.8 – 7.5 • *Hardness up to 20dGH • *Temp 72 to 77F (22-25C) • *River stones or sand substrate, minimal driftwood, sturdy plants (along the bottom or back), leave *Mostly long, open space for swimming • *Good water flow, high oxygen concentration, filter outlet, air stones, like to swim against the current • *Good lighting • Tankmates • *More danios, keep in schools of 6+, lower numbers can increase aggression towards each other and other fish, stressed when in low numbers • *Safe to keep with other danios (zebra and blue danios) • *Non-overly aggressive cichlids work well • *Stay away from slow moving fish like bettas, angelfish • *Stay away from small fish • *Bottom dwellers work well • *Corydoras, clown loaches, south american cichlids, tiger barbs • Diet • *Omnivorous, accepts all foods, flakes, pellets, shrimp, brine, worms • *Include vegetable flakes for a well rounded diet • *In the wild, feed on insects, worms, crustaceans • Breeding • *Egg scatterer • *Male colouration is more vivid • *Ready to breed at around 3 inches • *In females, the blue stripes stripes bend upward at the base of the tail, while in males the stripe runs straight, extending through the tail • *Males are also noticeably slimmer than their female counterparts • *The abdomen of the female is fuller and rounder than that of the male • *Relatively easy to breed and fry are easy to raise • *Tank should have a lot of room and exposure to sun, which triggers spawning • *Keep water warm, 77-82F (25-28) • *pH below 7.0 • *Provide some fine leafed plants like java moss, or a spawning mop • *Condition pair with live foods such as brine shrimp • *20 eggs are produce during each spawn, which continues until there are as many as 300 eggs *Scattered on plants or spawning mop • *Remove parents once eggs are laid as the parents will consume eggs and fry • *Eggs hatch in 24-36 hours • *Fry will be free swimming 48 hours later • *Feed the fry fine fry foods or freshly hatched baby brine shrimp • #aquarium #fish #aquascape #danio #danios #giantdanio #careguide
